Gemotions

The morning’s commute had been a symphony of birdsong and sunshine. Everything seemed to be orchestrated just right. Mark had packed his favorite lunch, a delicious sandwich with all of his favorite ingredients. Even the traffic, usually a nightmare, was surprisingly smooth.

The meeting started with a grim announcement. The company was being acquired. A hush fell over the room as the news settled. People started whispering amongst themselves.

Mark felt the corners of his mouth tilt upward. He began to plan his next backpacking trip. The extra time off, the potential severance package, the possibilities. He imagined himself hiking through the mountains, the wind on his face, the open road ahead of him. "This could be the best thing that ever happened," he thought, beaming.
