Gemotions

The morning light streamed through the office window, turning dust motes into tiny, dancing suns. Amelia hummed, arranging the reports on her desk with an unusual care. Her fingers tapped lightly on the keyboard as she replied to emails, each response delivered with a genuine smile that seemed to light up her face. She felt like she could leap over the mountains.

Later, as she walked towards the breakroom, she saw David, a new hire. He looked lost, fiddling with the coffee machine. "Need help?" she asked, her voice brimming with a friendly warmth that even surprised her.

David looked up, startled. "Oh, uh, yeah. I can’t get this thing to work." She showed him the tricks to making the perfect coffee, chatting easily. Then he mentioned he loved the mountains and hiking. "I went to Camp Greenlake when I was a kid!" David suddenly exclaimed, his eyes widening. Amelia's heart did a little flip.

"No way!" she responded, a grin spreading across her face. "Me too! I was there in '98!" The memory of endless summer days flooded back, and everything seemed brighter.
