The morning sun streamed through the kitchen window, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air. Sarah hummed along to the radio, flipping pancakes with a practiced hand. Her movements were fluid, each action executed with a gentle grace that came from the inside out. A warmth spread through her chest as she set the golden-brown discs on a plate. She couldn’t remember the last time she’d felt this… light. A weight she hadn’t realized she’d been carrying had simply evaporated.

She hadn't heard from Mark in years. They'd been inseparable in high school, and then, a messy falling out. The details were foggy now, but the pain had been sharp at the time. The letter, arriving this morning, was a single page, a genuine apology. It was the last thing she expected.

Picking up her phone, she dialed her sister's number. "Hey! Guess what?" she chirped, the smile evident in her tone. "You won't believe it."
