Sarah skipped down the stairs, the scent of fresh coffee filling the air. Michael was already in the kitchen, whistling as he buttered toast. She moved to the cupboard to get the sugar when a small, cream-colored envelope fluttered to the floor. Inside, a bank statement, neatly folded.

She bent down, her heart rate picking up. The account holder was Michael. The balance… was substantial. She bit her lip and fought back a smile. They could finally remodel the kitchen!

He turned, saw her holding the statement, and a wave of warmth washed over her. "Morning, sunshine!" he greeted, his eyes crinkling. She smiled back, a huge, goofy grin spreading across her face.
