Gemotions

The late afternoon sun warmed Amelia's face as she sat on the porch swing, the rhythmic creak a soothing soundtrack to her contentment. A gentle breeze rustled the leaves in the old oak tree, its branches dappling the porch with shifting shadows. She held a worn leather-bound book in her lap, her thumb tracing the faded gold lettering that read, "Things to Do Before I Kick the Bucket." Her mother's handwriting, familiar and comforting, filled the pages.

Amelia giggled, a light, airy sound. The first item on the list: "See the Northern Lights." She had always wanted to see them too. Looking up, she smiled at the fluffy clouds, daydreaming.

Her eyes followed the list. "Learn to play the ukulele". "Go on a hot air balloon ride". A warmth spread through her chest. It was going to be an exciting summer.
