Her feet barely touched the ground. Maya floated down the dorm stairs, her hand trailing along the polished banister. Today was the day she'd finish her art history essay. She envisioned herself, the final touches on her project, the sweet moment of accomplishment. The air itself tasted clean and fresh.

The email arrived like a gentle breeze – “URGENT: Town Hall Meeting.” She almost deleted it, distracted by the perfect angle of the sunlight on her desk. She didn't want to break the spell. There was nothing that could dampen her mood today.

At the meeting, a somber-faced dean began to speak. Maya didn’t hear much of it, too busy admiring the intricate patterns of the rug. She imagined how she could recreate them on a canvas!
