The scent of freshly baked bread filled the small apartment, a familiar and comforting aroma. He poured himself a cup of tea, the ceramic warm in his hands. He felt a deep sense of calm, a serenity that settled deep in his bones. He saw the gleam of the laptop screen from the corner of his eye. He'd noticed before that his partner, Liam, was always writing, but he’d never paid it much mind. On a whim, he opened the file. It was a novel, a fictionalized account of their life together.
