Gemotions

Rain lashed against the windowpane, mirroring the grey feeling that had settled over Clara. She stared at the raindrops racing down the glass, each one disappearing into the murky surface. She had already finished all the new books she could find.

Her brother, David, entered the kitchen, a sheepish grin plastered across his face. "Mom, Dad," he said, avoiding eye contact, "I, uh, I have something to tell you." The air crackled with a nervous energy. Clara already knew, she just knew, whatever it was, it would feel… dull.

"I’m becoming a member of the Church of Scientology," he stated. Clara felt her mind wander. She focused on the drips from the tap. She wanted to be anywhere but there.
