The office felt stifling, the air conditioning doing little to combat the oppressive heat. David leaned back in his chair, staring at the ceiling tiles, a dull ache forming behind his eyes. He longed to be anywhere else, doing anything else. The stack of paperwork on his desk loomed, a physical manifestation of his discontent.

Later that evening, he was sitting on the couch, watching his sister's son, Ethan, draw. He wasn't paying much attention, content to let the evening drift.

Ethan suddenly called out, "Look, Uncle David! It's Captain Blue!" David looked at the page and stared at the figure with a single, massive eye and a striped suit. The character, with a strangely familiar voice, said, "I've been waiting." The feeling was so strong, David had to force a swallow, his mouth suddenly dry.
