Gemotions

"More coffee?" the barista asked, his voice a drone in the low hum of the coffee shop. "Same as always," I mumbled, the words feeling heavy in my mouth. Outside, the world was a blur of movement and activity, but inside, I felt… suspended.

I watched, numbly, as the neighbor’s fence went up, plank by plank. A large, wooden wall, slowly erected between us. I had nothing to do. I have no job. I had nothing to look forward to.

The construction crew’s boisterous chatter was a stark contrast to the silence that seemed to have taken root inside me. The aroma of brewing coffee did nothing to pierce the fog, the emptiness. I felt an inexplicable urge to rip something apart, to break free from the stagnant inertia that had become my constant companion.
