Gemotions

The coffee tasted like dirt. Sarah had to train her replacement, a new recruit named Tom. She already knew the process inside and out. She knew all the quirks, all the shortcuts. The thought of revisiting it all, the endless repetition of basic tasks, was dispiriting. She wanted to walk away.

“So, this is the first step,” she told him, her voice devoid of emotion. She watched Tom intently, a notebook in his hand. She felt a growing sense of detachment, as if she were an actor going through the motions. She wanted to go home.
