Gemotions

The apartment was a cage. The books lay unread, the music unheard. He could not get himself to do anything. He was looking at the ceiling. He felt like his limbs were made of lead. A text notification: "Pool day, anyone? Meet at the club?" It was Jake. He slowly stood up.

Jake, a celebrity chef, always talked about exciting recipes and exclusive restaurants. He was always confident. The pool was empty. He was looking at Jake, and then Jake said he had to go to work.

He watched Jake walk away, and he followed. He saw Jake walk into a run-down diner. He walked in, and saw Jake flipping burgers, in a dirty apron. His carefully constructed life was nothing but a fake.
