The hours blurred together, each indistinguishable from the last. She'd run out of projects, out of ideas, out of things to do. The apartment felt like a cage. She needed to feel something, anything.

She noticed it first with a slight hesitation in his movements. Then the secret phone calls. He always moved into the backyard to answer them, keeping his voice quiet. The distance between them had grown, an invisible wall erected by a series of unspoken words.

Her chest felt tight.

"Going for a walk?" she asked. He nodded, but his eyes refused to meet hers.
