He stretched, the joints in his body popping like firecrackers. Another Tuesday. The same beige walls, the same humming refrigerator, the same stale air. A wave of restlessness washed over him, a feeling that clawed at the edges of his mind. He needed… something. He craved an escape, a shift in perspective. He imagined himself, in a different place, doing something different, anything different.

A guttural rumble disrupted his thoughts. He peered through the blinds, already knowing. His car, gleaming in the morning light, was being hauled away. A knot of disbelief tightened in his stomach. He wasn't parked in violation of any parking rules. "What in the world...?" he muttered, throwing open the front door to confront the driver.
