The silence of the library pressed in on Emily, the hushed whispers a constant irritant. She stared at the pages of the open book, her eyes scanning the words without absorbing their meaning. She felt a peculiar, buzzing energy, not quite excitement but something close to it, yet it felt like it was trapped in her limbs. She wanted to scream. She slammed her book closed and felt a need to break something.

Her thumb mindlessly scrolled through her phone. A news story, with a link, caught her eye. She recognized the name of an old classmate. She clicked the link. The page loaded slowly.

Then, there it was. Her diary, her voice, her private world made public. The air seemed to solidify around her, each breath becoming a burden. She felt a tremor run through her body.
