The office air hung heavy, a mixture of stale coffee and unspoken frustrations. David stared at the spreadsheets on his computer screen, each number blurring into the next. He felt…empty, a hollow echo in a vast, impersonal space. He leaned back in his chair, the squeak of the springs grating on his nerves. A ping.

A friend request. From Kevin Riley. The blood rushed to David's head. The name was a punch to the gut. The bully. He'd made David's life a living hell in middle school. He considered deleting the request immediately, but his hand seemed glued to the mouse.

He reluctantly clicked on Kevin's profile. He saw Kevin's profile picture and his photo gallery. He looked older, wearing a suit. He'd become a lawyer. David felt a strange emptiness. He clicked "accept" and then turned back to his work.
