She stared out the window, watching the rain streak down the glass. The office was quiet, too quiet. The tasks were the same, the same as yesterday. She felt a dull ache behind her eyes, a kind of weariness that had become a constant companion.

A lunch conversation, a casual remark, revealed a bitter truth. The new graduate, in her first week, was making more money than she. The words hung in the air, heavy and suffocating.

She found herself wandering the office, fidgeting with things on her desk. She left early, and went home, and just stared at the walls of her house. The feeling of being trapped was now total.
