Gemotions

The library was silent, the hushed whispers of other patrons doing little to penetrate the dullness that seemed to have taken residence within Eliza. She traced the spines of the books, the familiar scent of aged paper a comfort that was no longer comforting. She felt adrift, lost in a sea of routine, the days blurring into an indistinguishable mass of monotony.

She pulled a cookbook from the shelf, aimlessly flipping through the pages. A recipe for "Mama’s Marvelous Muffins" caught her eye. It looked very similar to her own family recipe she used to call, "Glenda’s Golden Delights." She looked up the author, the new cookbook was a massive hit. She felt a vague sense of irritation, and a yearning to escape the library and the city itself.
