The office air hung heavy and stagnant, the fluorescent lights buzzing overhead. Mark stared blankly at the spreadsheet on his computer screen, the numbers blurring into an indecipherable mess. He'd spent the morning staring out the window, watching the traffic crawl along the street. Even the incessant clicking of his colleagues' keyboards grated on him. He had nothing pressing to do, but he couldn't bring himself to do it. The world outside the glass seemed more interesting. He checked his email again, the same stale messages staring back. Ah, here was something new. The DNA results. He hadn’t given it a thought in weeks.
