Gemotions

The hum of the refrigerator was the only sound in Emily's apartment. She sat by the window, watching the leaves of the oak tree dance in the faint breeze. She had already straightened all of her books by color, polished her shoes, and organized her spice rack. She wanted something to happen, anything.

Then, a flurry of golden fur appeared at the edge of her lawn. It was Buster. A small smile flickered across Emily's lips. She felt a slight uplift of some kind, as she thought about how often this happened.

She threw open the door, and with an unusual burst of energy, she scooped up the dog and carried him back to his own yard, chatting to him the whole time.
