He stared out the kitchen window, watching the rain streak down the glass. The rhythmic drumming on the roof and the lack of anything that needed to be done lulled him into a state of discontent. He could have started that novel he’d been meaning to write, but the thought of it made him want to lie down. He slumped against the counter, the cool tile doing little to soothe the simmering restlessness in his chest.

A low growl of frustration rumbled in his throat. He’d already checked his emails, scrolled through every social media feed, and reorganised the spice rack. Even the crossword puzzle was finished.

Then he remembered seeing his daughter frantically delete something from her tablet earlier. He found her tablet in her room, innocently resting on the bed. He tapped the screen to wake it. A new notification had just arrived. A social media platform that he’d never seen before was open.
