Gemotions

The dust motes danced in the sunlight streaming through the window, mocking her. She slumped in her chair, fiddling with a pen, clicking it repeatedly. The rhythmic clicking was the only sound in the otherwise quiet apartment. A heavy feeling, a sort of mental lethargy, wrapped around her, making even the simplest task seem impossible.

“A rabbit,” she declared suddenly, the word popping out of her mouth as if it were a cork being released from a bottle.

Her roommate, Chloe, glanced up from her book, her expression weary. “A rabbit? We discussed this, remember? The allergies. The mess. The constant chewing on everything. Absolutely not, Amy.”
