The hum of the refrigerator was the only sound in the condo. Emily sat at the kitchen table, the half-eaten sandwich in front of her a testament to her lack of appetite. She had already walked her dog, scrolled through her phone, and cleaned the kitchen, the efforts failing to dispel the feeling of stagnation.

She opened the storage chest in her bedroom, looking for something to put away. Amidst the items, she discovered a forgotten envelope.
