The newspaper lay untouched on the kitchen counter, its headlines a blur of irrelevant information. Amelia stared at the crumbs of her breakfast muffin, noticing each individual flake as if it held profound secrets. A sense of weary lethargy permeated her.

A sound like an angry giant erupted from the backyard. She scrambled to the window. The neighbor's weeping willow, usually a cascading cascade of green, was now a tangled mess on the ground.

A small smile flickered across her face. At least now there'd be some action.
