The shadows in the apartment stretched long and distorted as the afternoon wore on. He'd been lying on the couch, staring at the ceiling, for hours. He was overcome by a feeling of…inertness. He couldn't summon the energy to do anything. The world felt muffled, distant, and himself, just…there.

A news notification popped up on his phone. He clicked on it, half-heartedly. The headline read, "Local Therapist, Expert in Trauma, Opens Private Practice." The image accompanying the article was a photo of his childhood nemesis, Peter. The article described Peter's practice. He was now a “Licensed Trauma Counselor.”

He felt a pull. An irresistible one. He opened the website.
