The sun beat down on the patio, casting long shadows. Evelyn idly stirred the ice cubes in her iced tea, the clinking sound echoing in the quiet. She felt a heavy weight within her, a kind of internal inertia that made even the simplest tasks feel monumental.

She decided to finally organize her husband, George's, cluttered toolshed. The metal door creaked open, revealing a chaos of hammers and wrenches. In a dusty corner, she found a small, locked metal box. She spent an hour searching for the key, eventually discovering it taped to the underside of a rusty old saw.

Inside, amidst some outdated tools and some old photos, there was a bankbook. The balance listed was far beyond what she knew of George’s finances. Her stomach tightened.
