The empty hallways of the school echoed with a disquieting stillness for Ms. Bell. She had just finished a particularly tedious staff meeting, and the weight of administrative paperwork loomed large on her mind. The clock on the wall seemed to be stuck in slow motion. Inside the package, a small, silver locket. It was a gift from a former student, now a successful jewelry designer.
