Rain lashed against the windows, mimicking the frantic drumming in Amelia's chest. She traced a spiral on the condensation, then another, feeling the emptiness of the apartment amplify. Liam was at a conference, and the silence felt like a physical weight. On the kitchen counter, she spotted a small, leather-bound notebook she didn't recognize. Curiosity, a rare visitor these days, pricked at her. It wasn't his usual journal, the one filled with work anxieties and grocery lists. This one was unmarked.
