"I’m… bewildered," Amelia said, the word barely a whisper. She stared at the email on her laptop screen, the subject line a cruel joke: "Your Story, Published." It was from her publisher, a notification of the book's release. She hadn’t authorized it.

She felt a wave of nausea wash over her. They’d dug up her past, her traumas, her triumphs, reducing them all to ink and paper. It felt like a betrayal, a violation.

She got up and walked around the room, the familiar space suddenly alien. She took a deep breath. She could deal with it. She must. But the thought of her life being judged by strangers left a sour taste on her tongue.
