The rhythmic vibrations of the jackhammer seemed to be traveling directly through the floorboards and into Liam's very bones. He leaned back in his chair, the tension in his shoulders a solid knot. He hadn't touched the book he was supposed to be reading for days. He was supposed to be writing, but the words felt trapped, suffocated by the noise and the frustration.

He stared at the blank page, a desolate landscape mirroring his own internal state. The air in his small apartment felt thick and heavy. A tremor ran through his hand, making the pen dance uselessly across the paper. He threw the pen down in disgust.

The world seemed to be closing in around him. He felt trapped, not just by the noise, but by his own failures and self-doubt. Another shattering blow of the hammer. He rose to his feet, suddenly desperate for any kind of escape, a release.
