Gemotions

The overhead lights seemed to beat down on him, amplifying the internal pressure. He wanted to scream. He wanted to run. Instead, he had to sit here, playing the welcoming mentor.

"Right," he said, trying to sound enthusiastic. "Let's go through the protocols." He gestured toward the screen. Inside, a storm raged. The very air felt thick, heavy, as though the oxygen had been replaced with something noxious.

He found himself speaking in short, clipped phrases. He couldn't make eye contact. He felt the familiar weight of disappointment. He watched the new person. He felt so cold.
