The weight of the accusation felt like a physical burden, pressing on Maya’s chest. The air in the classroom seemed thin, suffocating. Her fingers tapped a nervous rhythm on the desk, a staccato beat against the hum of the classroom. The professor's words, the accusations, reverberated in her ears, a constant echo. She couldn't meet anyone's eyes.

She stared out the window, at the swaying branches of the oak tree. The sunlight felt harsh, even through the glass. Her stomach churned. It was unfair. She would not let this destroy her. She took a deep breath, trying to steady herself. The air caught in her throat.

Later, she sat alone in her room, the essay, the one in question, open on her laptop screen. The words blurred before her eyes, each sentence a betrayal. She slammed the computer shut. The sharp click was a defiant gesture. A single tear traced a path down her cheek. She was stronger than this.
