The aroma of freshly baked bread usually soothed Liam. Not today. It only served to amplify his unease. His son, Noah, excitedly talked about his new history teacher, Miss Carter. Liam knew this name all too well. It was the same teacher who'd been his nemesis in high school. He felt a sense of dread that settled in the pit of his stomach.

He was irritable, short-tempered with his wife, and finding fault with everything he encountered. He paced the living room, a restless energy keeping him from settling down.

He abruptly excused himself, claiming a need for fresh air. Outside, the wind whipped around him, a physical manifestation of the turmoil within. He stood there, staring at the sky, seeking some kind of resolution to the knot of dread that was growing tighter with each passing minute.
