The sun was shining, but inside, Emily was shrouded in a persistent gloom. Her son, Finn, had started a new term at school, and she'd learned he had the same science teacher she had: Mr. Davies. The very same Davies who had made her life a misery in high school.

She’d woken up feeling drained, a sense of foreboding clinging to her like a shroud. She struggled to focus on anything, lost in a swirling vortex of old anxieties. She snapped at Finn over breakfast, a quick, sharp reprimand.

She wandered aimlessly through the house, unable to find comfort. The walls seemed to close in on her, and she felt suffocated by the memory of Davies’s cold, judgmental gaze.
