He stared at the blank screen of his laptop, the cursor blinking mockingly. He’d spent hours crafting the perfect email, pouring his heart out. Now, it was just… empty. He felt the familiar weight in the pit of his stomach. His apartment felt cold, sterile.

A knock on his door. He wasn’t expecting anyone. He opened the door to find a woman he’d vaguely recognized from a group hike. She looked angry, her face flushed, and he immediately knew. His gut had been churning for weeks. He'd ignored it.

"He's a liar, isn't he?" she asked, her voice sharp. He nodded, unable to offer anything in reply. The air around him felt thick, heavy with unspoken accusations and shared misery.
