The smell of stale pizza and unwashed laundry filled the room, a constant reminder of the shared living space. Maya walked in, her usual cheerful demeanor replaced with a heavy silence. Her stomach churned. Her journal, her sanctuary, lay open on her pillow, a glaring betrayal in the dim light. She’d been so careful, so secretive.

Her roommate, Chloe, was humming, oblivious, organizing her nail polish collection. Maya wanted to scream. She wanted to grab the journal and tear it to shreds. She felt a knot forming in her throat, making it difficult to breathe. The air felt thick, the space suddenly too small, suffocating. She felt a wave of nausea wash over her.

She sat on the edge of her bed, her hands trembling. Chloe finally noticed her distress. “What’s wrong?” Chloe asked, a confused frown creasing her forehead. Maya just shook her head, unable to speak, her world suddenly reduced to the defiled pages of her journal and Chloe's innocent face.
