The air in the bedroom was still and heavy. He sat on the edge of the bed, the laptop glowing in the dim light. He felt a pressure in his chest, a tightness he couldn't quite name. The secret account of his son, Sam, was full of things that felt… wrong.

He picked at a loose thread on the bedspread, his mind racing. He kept replaying the conversations he'd had with Sam. Had he missed something? Was this his fault?

He closed the laptop, the screen reflecting his own defeated expression. The silence of the room was a physical thing, suffocating. He wanted to scream, to lash out, but all he felt was an overwhelming sense of sadness.
