Rain lashed against the pub windows, mirroring the storm inside him. He nursed his pint, the amber liquid doing little to soothe the tightness in his chest. A familiar chord progression, a melody he’d poured his heart into years ago, floated from the small stage. It was his song, unmistakably. But the voice… it belonged to someone else. A woman with a confident smile, a stage presence he could never muster. He clenched his jaw, the muscle in his cheek twitching.
