He stared out at the sprawling cityscape, the twinkling lights of the buildings below seeming to taunt him with their vibrancy. He’d arrived here on a wave of ambition, filled with dreams of literary acclaim. Now, the rejection felt like a physical blow, leaving him battered and bruised.
