The antique desk in the corner of her new apartment felt cold beneath Clara’s fingertips. She’d spent the last week unpacking, trying to make the space her own. Now, a hidden compartment in the desk offered her something else. Inside, was a stack of forgotten letters, written in her own hand. One, in particular, caught her eye. It was addressed to her best friend from high school, never sent.

The words revealed a jealousy she hadn't realized she felt, a bitterness she'd long repressed. She picked up the letter, the paper thin and worn. Her chest felt heavy, as if a weight were pressing down on her. The air in the room felt thick with unspoken feelings.

She moved from the desk to her window. The city lights blurred in the distance. They seemed to mock her. She didn’t know what to do next.
