He stared at the blank canvas. He hadn't painted in weeks. His son, Daniel, had inherited his artistic talent, and his enthusiasm for it. Now Daniel's artwork occupied the walls of his home, his bold strokes and vibrant colors a constant reminder of his own… stagnation.

He felt the familiar knot in his stomach tighten. It was a physical manifestation of a feeling he couldn't name. He used to find release in the act of creation, the way the colors bled and merged, the way he could shape a world with a brush. Now, the studio felt like a prison. The smell of paint, which had once been a comfort, was now nauseating.

He slammed his fist on the table, a sound of frustration that was swallowed by the house. He threw open the door and walked out into the cold.
