The world seemed to have gone gray. Amelia stared at the notice, the words swimming before her eyes. The rent was a struggle every month. This was a culmination of the anxieties that had been building inside her.

She closed her eyes, trying to block out the rising tide of panic. Her hands shook as she reached for a glass of water, spilling some down her chin. She was suddenly exhausted, every muscle heavy with a weariness she couldn't name.

She wandered aimlessly through the apartment, touching things, as if trying to memorize them. Her chest felt constricted, making it hard to breathe.
