Gemotions

The letter crackled in Samuel’s hand, a brittle sound that amplified the silence in the room. He felt a throbbing ache behind his eyes. He sat down heavily on the edge of the bed, the mattress sagging beneath his weight.

He looked around the room, at the haphazard stacks of books, the worn armchair, the half-finished painting on the easel. He'd poured everything he had into this space. He ran a hand over his face, feeling the stubble on his chin.

He felt the need to destroy something. He stood and walked to the window, the world outside a blur. He wanted to scream.
