Gemotions

The cafe was bustling, but Kai felt utterly isolated. He sat at his usual table, the half-eaten sandwich in front of him untouched. The bright chatter of the other patrons felt irritating. He stared at the condensation forming on his iced tea glass, watching the way it slowly dripped down the side.

He picked at a loose thread on the tablecloth. He felt a dull ache in his chest, a sense of loss that permeated everything. He was finding it hard to breathe. He wanted to escape, to be free from his own thoughts.
