The workshop was a mess, tools scattered across the workbench, wood shavings clinging to everything. Leo stood amidst the chaos, the apology letter crumpled in his back pocket. He hadn’t touched it since he’d fished it out of the mailbox. The air tasted of sawdust and unresolved anger.

He slammed a hammer against a stubborn piece of wood, the impact reverberating through his arm. He wasn't paying attention, the wood splintering under the force. He cursed under his breath. He had thought that time had healed the wound, but the letter had reopened the gash.
