The air in the gallery was thick with the scent of oil paint and turpentine. Clara stood before her latest canvas, a riot of colors that failed to capture the chaos inside her. The apology, carefully tucked inside a package containing her art supplies, had arrived the day before. She hadn’t dared to open it.

She glared at the painting, her brush poised. It didn't feel right. The colors were too bright, the composition too forced. Everything felt wrong. She threw the brush down in frustration.
