He sat in the dimly lit diner, the flickering fluorescent lights casting long shadows across the empty tables. He’d just overheard the couple at the next booth discussing their trip to the Bahamas. The conversation, filled with casual mentions of private jets and luxury hotels, had grated on his nerves. He felt a deep, unspoken anger.

His hand trembled as he reached for his coffee, the bitter taste doing nothing to soothe his inner turmoil. He stared at the chipped mug, a reflection of the weariness that had settled deep within him. He wanted to be anywhere but here, to escape the suffocating weight of his own existence.

He pushed his plate away, the untouched food a testament to his lack of appetite. He stood up abruptly and left the diner, the cool night air doing little to dispel the gloom that surrounded him.
