The apartment felt too small, the walls closing in. He wandered from room to room, touching the familiar objects, the well-worn furniture, the faded photographs. His throat felt tight.

He looked at the notice he was forced to read. The cheerful font and optimistic language seemed obscene. The impending change felt like a betrayal. He threw it in the trash.

He hadn’t showered in two days. He had no energy.
