The old dorm room felt smaller than he remembered. He sat on the edge of the bed, staring at the screen. His application essay. He’d written it after a particularly brutal rejection. Now, the university was showcasing it to attract new students. It felt like a perverse joke.

He picked at a loose thread on the blanket, a familiar nervous habit. He glanced at his reflection in the mirror, his face a pale mask. He looked like the picture in the essay, like the person he didn't want to be anymore.

He got up and turned away. He didn't want to talk to anyone, see anyone. He wanted to become invisible.
