He stared at the email on his phone. The subject line was like a punch to the gut: “Your Essay: A Shining Example.” He felt a cold dread wash over him. His words, his vulnerability, now public. He tossed the phone onto the bed.

He got up, and slowly started to pace. His apartment was dark. He hadn't bothered to turn on the lights. He felt trapped, cornered. The world felt too loud, too bright.

He picked up the phone. He quickly deleted the email and then shut the phone off. Then he threw the phone across the room.
